I’m a grad student, and one presumably heading in the direction of being a prof. Check back in three to five years and we’ll see how it goes.

As for nonfiction, try Status Anxiety and The Consolations of Philosophy first. I particularly like the descriptions in the latter when these old, eminent philosophers, who are renown for the power of their minds and thinking, fall hard and hilariously for random teenage or twenty-something girls.

I’ve tried to read his travel nonfiction and his Architecture of
Happiness but failed. Perhaps I need to give them another go.

A lot of my students caught onto the connection too, when I assigned On Love. So much so that I made a point of seeing the movie, but the lack of interiority bothered me. BTW, de Botton's nonfiction is often hilarious; he's only written the three novels and shifted entirely towards nonfiction since. It might be his natural field.

I was googling about this movie and Alain de Botton, cause I thought just like you. I think this movie looks like ‘On Love: movie version’

Meanwhile, the Title of ‘On Love’ in Korea is ‘Why do I love You’. haha.

500 days is my favorite movie of 2009. I watched it three times in theatre, something I’ve never done before. My boyfriend got me the dvd for christmas and I cannot wait to watch it again.

It’s cool to see I’m not the only one who saw the resemblance between the movie and his books.

For the last two months i’ve been reading all of Alain de Botton’s books. i’m finishing ‘Essays in love’ right now. I stumbled by accident on this movie this morning and just watched it. I couldn’t believe how much it resembles the book. I believe that the ‘Architecture of happiness’ scenes we’re put in to confirm the suspicions of all the people that connected de Botton to the movie.
