I received a letter from pen pal, Danielle this week which got me thinking about letters. Through the years, I’ve accumulated many letters and keep them in a box. In reading back these letters, I sometimes wish I remember what I said to elicit the responses. The documenting side of me loves that GMail tracks all my electronic correspondences. The romantic side of me loves the sentimental value of real paper with faded ink. It just gets me a little twitchy when I cannot remember my side of the conversation.

Maybe the charm of real paper letters is the ambiguity that grows in time. It’s romantic or something.

I paid 50 cents to ride a horse this week. I won’t be posting the video but here’s the proof!

Last weekend, I had one of my tiny dreams come true. I’ve always wanted to be a food judge at an event. A lucky opportunity presented by Austin Food Bloggers Alliance granted me my wish! I was one of the 12 judges judging a dessert show and taste tested 27 cupcakes and 9 other desserts. By the 20th tasting, I was hopping on sugar and my belly was starting to hurt. Regardless, it was glorious!

I did my duties and then had to run off to pick up my little from Big Brothers and Big Sisters so I’m not sure who won. I’m just surprised I’m not put off sugar!

P.S. They also had beautiful cakes solely being judged for design. I posted a few here.

On Leap Day, our lab took off a day with our boss and climbed a rock, lovingly named Enchanted Rock. I’m not an outdoorsy girl by any means. The last work event was a canoeing trip. I huffed and puffed my way up that rock and by the time I reached the top, I was reduced to a petulant child. I demanded our next work event be indoors and suggested bowling. I am pleased that I have enough clout and or understanding coworkers and boss because they conceded. Bowling next time!

Despite my whining, the view was gorgeous and I felt accomplished.
