VEDA: Unfortunate Fashion Trends & A Trend I Miss

Youtube Link

I almost didn’t want to cross-feed this on the blog. Today with VEDA (Vlog Every Day in August), we discuss fashion trends we wished we hadn’t worn and trends we wish would come back. For those without video capabilities, I admited to having and wearing gold pleather pants age 17-18. Also, somewhere between 18-19, I wore those beaded see-through tops that were just one front panel tied on. Oi. I tried digging up photos online. Luckily for me, photo evidence have already been packed in moving boxes. (I’m moving in one week!)

The trend that I wish would come back are those plasticy mesh backless flats with sequins on top. I had a bunch from Urban Outfitters circa 2001-2002.

Question: Which fashion trend do you regret and which trend do you want to come back?

VEDA Has Begun: Introductions & Big Hairy Audacious Goals

VEDA (Vlog Every Day in August) started yesterday and the growth of this project in comparison to its first year last year is stunning. Last year we had 20 something to less than 20 by the end of August. This year, word on twitter is that we’re now at over 80 people who signed up. That’s a lot of videos to keep up with. Last night, my close friend from college (she signed up this year) and I stayed up way past my bedtime watching videos and commenting.

I’m cross-feeding the content on my blog for those who do not use Youtube the way we use it (like Google Reader + Facebook all in one but for videos).

VEDA Day 1 – Introductions and Why VEDA?

Youtube Link

For those without video capabilities, I introduce myself as Linda, hailing from Austin, 28 years old. I drink coffee through straws even if it’s a hot coffee and I love donuts. I’m doing VEDA because I did it last year and met some great people. Also, VEDA changed my life. Last year we did a vlog on body image. I vlogged my back scar. Since then, I’ve been more brave about exposing the scar in public.

VEDA Day 2 – Big Hairy Audacious Goals

Youtube Link

In today’s vlog, I talk about two of my big hairy audacious goals. 1. I would love to discover a new career path. I’ve explored a couple of careers before and found myself not feeling the same way about them once I was knee deep. Also, on a much more lighter note, I’d love to see all 50 states.

Question: What is your big hairy audacious goal?

Weekend Recap

I had my birthday celebration with friends over the weekend. We saw Friends with Benefits at the Alamo Drafthouse and then just mingled over drinks. I went to bed incredibly late both Friday and Saturday (think 4-6am). Sunday, Brandi cooked dinner for me and made orange chocolate cupcakes (heavenly!) and we watched Sweet Bird of Youth, another Tennessee Williams movie to close our spree of 4 Tennessee Williams movies.

So ends the month of July and today is the first day of August and VEDA (Vlog Every Day of August). I recorded my video already but experimented with doing it with my new smartphone. I can’t seem to get it uploaded through the networks at work. I’ll figure out the upload later today and embed both today and tomorrow’s on the blog tomorrow. Or you can watch for it today by subscribing to my Youtube channel.

If I were to describe my weekend in just one word, I’d use “convivial.”

Question: How would you describe your weekend in one word?

VEDA – Sick :(

Today’s VEDA (Vlog Every Day in April) submission is a bit of a downer. I’m sick.

Youtube Link

For those of you who can’t see the video, I talked about what I do when I’m sick. Sleep (hello, 4.5 hour nap), take vitamins, and drink OJ.

Question: What do you do when you’re sick to get better?

VEDA – Being Prepared

Today’s VEDA (Vlog Every Day in April) vlog is me listing off ways I am prepared for catastrophes.

Youtube Link

If you do not have video capabilities, here’s the list of random ways I’m prepared:

  • Umbrella in the car
  • Umbrella at the apartment
  • Generic black heels in the car
  • Generic black flip flops in the car
  • Emergency fund to last about a year
  • Always keep a book on me
  • GPS system
  • Clean pair of socks in the car (just in case I get a random invite to bowling)
  • Extensive first aid kit in the car that includes disposable blanket and flares

Question: In what ways are you prepared?

VEDA – Why We Food Blog

For today’s VEDA, I managed to rope two food blogging friends into telling me why they food blog on camera. Today was the first time I’ve met Foodie is The New Forty in person and I’ve been tweeting at her and following her food blog for over a year. I have to admit I was a tad starstruck by her. Miss Julieboolietran is a new food blogger with an infectiously happy disposition and a deep love for Chilantro’s (a post from my food blog).

VEDA – No Kidding: Straight Talk from Teen Parents

Today’s VEDA (Vlog Every Day in April) submission centered around a presentation by a very neat nonprofit. I saw No Kidding: Straight Talk from Teen Parents today with my little from Big Brothers & Big Sisters. At 11 years old, I would think that she’s too young to sit through a 2 hour presentation of very heavy and very real talk from teen parents. However, she had made a comment about wanting to be a single mother that I felt it was appropriate to “torture” (to quote her).

Here’s a vlog from the organization:

Hope you guys are having a safe Easter weekend. I’m off to dinner.

What I ate for dinner on Tuesday with Brittany.

5.

If you’re reading from a reader or email, I have a new layout. New layout is simple and white and makes me feel lighter!

6.

This weekend I’m breaking bread with my friends, Shane and Nam. I haven’t seen Shane since November in 2009. And Nam is always traveling for work (His job is 100 percent travel!). I have a lot of friends who go off and do their own thing in different cities, states, and countries. Both Nam and Shane are two of them. I really appreciate those friendships where there’s room to go off and not check in for months and almost years, but when we’re finally in the same city and country, we can just call and have dinner. I know a few people who can only have those close knit friendships that don’t allow the flexibility needed for growing up and moving on.

7.

This week’s moments of bliss: ♥ Alan’s bowling league team winning their championship ♥ eating asparagus and loving it ♥ Austin Restaurant Week ♥ dressy dinner date with Brittany ♥ pork belly in my belly two nights in a row ♥ decadent chocolate cakes ♥ using Alan as a recliner while watching TV, a recliner that hugs ♥ Watching Lincoln Lawyer at Alamo Drafthouse while eating warm chocolate chip cookies with icecream

Questions: Do you celebrate Easter? If so what are your Easter traditions?

VEDA – Facing Fears

My VEDA (Vlog Every Day in April) vlog for April 20 didn’t quite make the midnight target but here it is, less than an hour late. I talk about facing fears.

Youtube Link

For those of you who can’t see the video, I touched on how the most significant fear I’ve faced was quitting a career job 2 years ago. The lesson I continue to take away when confronting scary things is that scary things usually aren’t so scary in hindsight.

Question: When was the last time you faced a fear?

VEDA – Ten On Tuesday (vol 5): Books

I’m running out the door as I type up this blog post. Today’s VEDA is my answering the Ten On Tuesday questions for today.
