One thing I learned about Portland from my recent stay is that the city strives to be known as the City of Roses. There are a few gardens in Portland that have rave reviews but my friends and I were drawn to the International Rose Test Garden during our long weekend there. Here are just a few reasons why we chose this particular garden to visit during our trip.

Unlike some of the other gardens in Portland, it’s free!

They have very huggable trees.

There are endless photo opportunities.

The Oregon Zoo is around the corner.

There are more than 650 breeds of roses.

The flowers make a beautiful backdrop for a picnic. Not pictured in this post are the picnic friendly grassy areas!

Even if you’re not up for a romantic picnic, it’s a great place for a friend date.
