This week on Totes Awesome Channel, we’re chatting about something we did despite our fears.

After work, I’ll be driving to a small town outside of Dallas for a weekend with Kim and her friends in an adorable cottage (complete with horses) to cook and make s’mores. Also, Kim introduced me to the concept of making s’mores with peanut butter cups. Is your mind blown? I can’t wait to see what that taste like.

I didn’t really recap my short visit to Miami from last weekend. I found myself distracted by the guilt I was feeling. My light fluffy recap would have mentioned that painting a red wall white is no fun and helping my friend with home repairs made me feel better about renting. It’s a timely thing because I’ve been lusting after owning a home for a few months now and it would take me forever to save up. I welcome this perspective and am now reminded of the benefits of renting, such as no painting or home repairs needed.

I went to an early screening of Gravity (courtesy Klout Perks) not expecting to really like it. I have all these ideas about what I like and don’t like and lately I’ve been proving myself wrong. First it was Harry Potter. Now it’s a “space movie”. I loved Gravity which is about a scientist on her first research space mission. An accident happens while she is on her mission and she is now drifting in space. I’m adding drifting in space to my long list of fears.

I read Art of Racing in the Rain in 24 hours. This was another thing I didn’t think I’d like. I thought it would try too hard to make me cry and thus make me feel like a robot. I made this judgement because Marley & Me the movie made me feel that way. But I was giggling at Enzo, the canine narrator from the first page.

I have a handful of excerpts I copied over from my reading this book but the all contain some kind of spoiler. Here’s the best I could do.

“If you taught me to read and provided for me the same computer system as someone has provided for Stephen Hawking, I, too, would write great books. And yet you don’t teach me to read, and you don’t give me a computer stick I can push around with my nose to point at the next letter I wish typed. So whose fault is it that I am what I am?”
