• I need to start reading more.  I’ve been on the lookout for a good book.  I’ve considered {this is so embarrassing to admit} the Sookie Stackhouse Novels and the Twilight Series, but I don’t want to ruin my shows and movies.  I can blame my friend Janie for getting me into that stuff…Argh!

    • Don’t be embarrassed! I read Twilight! And watch the movies because of the books.

I tried to get into Sookie Stackhouse to hold me over when True Blood is not on air but after 2 books, I gave up. Just not as captivating.

  • I read Julie Orringer’s other book The Invisible Bridge, which was pretty good. Don’t know how you read so many books at once. I can read 2 at max. Usually its a fiction & nonfiction bc I can’t keep 2 fiction stories straight.

    • I haven’t read any Julie Orringer. Her How to Breathe Underwater was praised extensively by Nick Hornby in one of his  reading columns.

I don’t think I’ll read all four books over the break but I’m half way through Therese Raquin. The author’s back story is so fascinating to me! I love that it was just a random pick.

I read 3-4 books at a time because I like to leave them around. One will be in my car, one is at work, one I might carry everywhere, and one at home.

  • Wow, looks like you have a great weekend ahead of you with lots of good food and all those books! Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Linda!

PS – Let me know how 1984 is; I’ve always wanted to read it.

    • Will do! I’m long overdue on my reading it too.

Have a great Thanksgiving too! Will Chris be joining you? I know he’s coming to visit but I forget when!

      • I wish! He’ll be here on Christmas Eve and will be staying until January 17th. I’m super excited to spend Christmas and NYE with him. :D

  • When I was studying in Paris my prof for my contemporary french lit class was OBSESSED with Émile Zola, ha! I’ve read Au bonheur des dames, but that’s it. Let me know what you think of Thérèse! 1984 is one of my favorite “classics”.

    • The funny thing is, I just randomly picked up this book. I did some reading up on Zola and his life was so fascinating! I’m half way through Thérèse and I love it. I think I may finish it after I make the dreaded drive to Houston. Need to pack first!

      Happy Thanksgiving, Amanda!

I’ve never read 1984 but have it on my to-be-read list.  Have you started it yet?

    • I barely started. I haven’t really sat down with it yet but am excited! Only at the first chapter and I’m so far engaged. It’s kind of neat that I took these 4 books home thinking I’d be lucky to finish 1.5 but I finished 3 and started the 4th! I didn’t bite more than I can chew.

Did you finish 1984? I’m contemplating reading it this week. Oh, did you get reply from 100 Things? Any interest in reading One Hundred Years as “book club” style with another blogger next year?

        • Still trucking through. Only about 80 or so pages in. It’s a bleak world, the world of 1984.

I didn’t get the reply from 100 things but will be interested in reading One Hundred Years next year! Keep me up to date with the news.
