Friday 7 Quick Takes (vol 95)

1.

This week on Totes Awesome Channel, we talk about going outside our comfort zone.

I realize I love the short spurts of going outside of comfort zones yet I tend to rabbit around the kinds that are supposed to be sustained new life habits. For instance, skydiving? Done and not a problem! Learning how to stand up for myself in my early twenties? Took me years.

2.

I finished Just Kids by Patti Smith yesterday and was moved to tears. It is my favorite book so far this year.

A random excerpt I jotted down: “I sat on the floor as Kris Kristofferson sang her “Me and Bobby McGee,” Janis joining in the chorus. I was there for these moments but so young and preoccupied with my own thoughts that I hardly recognized them as moments.”

This spoke to me because how often are we present during great moments and are distracted by our petty drama to recognize the moments as significant?

3.

I like having great friends all over the U.S. who let me convince them into visiting my sketchbook with Sketchbook Project when the tour visits their town. Last week, Suki and Treavor checked out my book in Oakland, California.

Photos are courtesy of Suki. Read her post about her experience on her blog here.

4.

If you’re ever in these towns on the corresponding dates, check out my book! It’s under “curiousnotions” and I’ll be happy to host a guest post from you about your experience at a Sketchbook Project event.

When Alan presented me with tickets to see Snoop Dogg, I said yes right away because I’ve been a fan for 15 years! I had a childhood crush on him that might have spanned 10 years. I expected to really enjoy myself but was surprised by how much I needed a night like last night. It felt like a big exhale after holding my breath for two weeks. Like I mentioned in my last post, (thank you for all the input by the way!), I’ve been so tightly wound. A few big chunks of my life are moving ahead simultaneously that it has the easily anxious me, really anxious!

Thank you Alan and Snoop Dogg for showing a girl a good time.
