A toast and 8 Lessons I Learned Doing VEDA

Today is the last day of VEDA (Vlog Every Day in August) and the suggested topic is to give a toast. Thanks again for riding this out with me. I did a whopping total of two video blogs before doing VEDA so I was pretty much a vlog noob. I’ve learned a few things and enjoyed myself. Follows is a list of lessons I’ve learned doing VEDA and after that I posted the video of the toast.

8 Lessons I Learned Doing VEDA

  1. You should turn off your cell phone and video chat when video blogging.
  2. Video blogging regularly (try everyday in one month) helps you be more comfortable with the way you look and sound.
  3. Music pulls together montages.
  4. The shorter the video blog the better. The duration of the video is almost like your first impression. I learned this because as I went through VEDA vlogs of others, I noticed I put off watching the longer videos as long as I could.
  5. When video blogging often (try everyday in a month), changing settings keeps things fresh.
  6. Practicing vlogging is very much like practicing public speaking. Public speaking is a good skill in life. Therefore, vlogging is a good skill in life.
  7. Watching myself on video routinely makes me aware of my physical ticks. I rock forwards and backwards, stutter and mumble, and say “um” a lot.
  8. Windows Movie Maker is a good and free video editing starter software, however it is also very limiting.

VEDA – August 29, 2010: Top 5 Laminated Lists

The weekend ends in ONE hour. So sad. I had a lovely weekend and am especially not ready to go to work tomorrow. Today’s topic for VEDA is Top 5 Laminated Lists (Friends reference) or Top 5 unrealistic crushes. Mmm. I gush a bit over men. In case you don’t have video capabilities sitting at work, here’s my 5: Ryan Reynolds, Johnny Dep, Eric Northman (yes, I’m using his fictional name. It helps with the fantasy), Robert Downey Jr., Ryan Gosling. If you do have capabilities, you get to hear me gush for 2 minutes and 5 seconds.

Question: What was the favorite part of your weekend?

Mine was having Cindy visit Austin, eating good food, and shooting a how to not miss a high five video.

VEDA – August 28, 2010: How to Never Miss a High Five

The title pretty much says it all. Today’s VEDA vlog is a how to video. How to Never Miss a High Five

Friday 7 Quick Takes (vol 17)

1.

I’m about finished with my 4th week doing The Artist’s Way (affiliate link). Week 4′s big assignment is to not read. No leisurely reading. For me this translates to no blog reading, no reading in waiting rooms, no reading if I hop on a campus bus, no reading during lunch hours, no reading before bed. It was torture and I definitely flailed and failed. More on the whys and hows regarding my no reading experience next week. I cannot wait til Sunday, when I can read my blogs without guilt.

2.

I’ve spent a pretty penny on my car this week which has me bummed. I had to bail out on social engagements and looks like I’ll have a skeletal social calendar the next 1.5 months. One of the silver linings is I know a lot more about how tires are graded than I did before this week. Other silver linings are the good health of myself and loved ones, I’m employed, and I have good people in my life.

3.

Speaking of skeletal social calendars and good people in my life, my friend Cindy is coming for a visit from Houston this weekend. I think I can afford a cupcake. I told her other than that I plan on staring at her pretty face for free. I’m going to introduce her to Polkadot Cupcakes after work today.

4.

Yesterday’s VEDA topic was “somewhere you want to travel.”

5.

I’m astounded that we’re already flirting with September. Wha?!?!? There’s so much to do still! I don’t think I’ll be getting out of the country as hoped in light of my pocketbook taking dips lately (other personal dips). I’m bummed about that.

6.

I still don’t know what I want to do with my life but I feel optimistic and ready.

7.

In this morning’s VEDA recording I talk movies and TV shows.

VEDA: August 25, 2010 – Inspirational People on the Internet

Hi. I recorded this VEDA vlog last night and uploaded by 9pm to youtube, so I did make the cut! Am sharing it on the blog. The topic for yesterday was people who inspire me on the internet. Basically, if I comment on your content, you inspire me. Thank you for letting me read and watch you and letting me into your life. This means, you, readers. Thank you. Yes, you!

VEDA – August 23, 2010 Reality TV Show Pitch

Cutting it close with the vlogs lately. I ALMOST skipped today but I’m pretty goal oriented and the goal is to do a video blog every day. Luckily an idea struck and I’m actually going to make the deadline. Today’s VEDA topic is “pitch a reality tv show.”

Question: What are a few things you’ve yet to try?

P.S. To my blogging friends: I’m doing a reading cleanse /deprivation thing as part of The Artist’s Way (affiliate link). I will catch up and comment on every thing starting Sunday. Cannot wait. Not reading blogs and books is torture and I’m only on day 2.
