VEDA: August 22, 2010: A Day in the Life

I’m an hour late (it’s 1:00 am) but here’s my VEDA video submission for 8/22/2010. My VEDA for yesterday wasn’t posted to my blog (only to youtube) because it was incorporated in today’s VEDA. Yesterday’s topic was “go outside” and today’s is “Day in the Life.” All scenes were taken or recorded on 8/21/2010. Enjoy! It took me hours.

Question: What is a day in your life like?

Friday 7 Quick Takes (vol 16)

1.

This week was riddled with hints and signs about lottery tickets. We pulled this week’s writing prompt and it was “lottery ticket,” Lottery Ticket, the movie, is coming out tonight, there was a lottery joke in Eat, Pray, Love, and a lottery ticket being brought up in the movie Other Guys. Triggered, Alan and I bought 20 lottery tickets yesterday. Neither of us are regular ticket buyers.

So uh, wish us luck!

2.

I had the best low key casual date night with Alan last night. We watched The Other Guys, picked up lottery tickets, ordered take out, and ate while we watched Jersey Shore. I had a rough few days and he’s been making me laugh til my cheeks hurt.

3.

I like dates. Everyone should schedule monthly or bimonthly dates with their peoples. We should do so urgently, before we all get families and less time to laugh over a cup of coffee. Wednesday I had a movie date with Brittany, last night it was Alan, and today for lunch I have a date with Deesh. We’re grabbing noodles on campus. Tomorrow I have a cupcake date with Selina and Lil. Life is especially good when you sprinkle it with lots of dates.

4.

I started a Vietnam fund for my parents and me. They don’t know yet and I don’t plan on telling them. I have a whopping 30 dollars saved. Am contemplating starting a general travel account. Hmm, at which point do you have too many allocated bank accounts?

5.

This week has made me realize just how important family is.

Here’s my VEDA for 8/18/2010. Topic is books. It is a tiny bit over 5 minutes and this with major cutting. I can go on forever on books! Click here if you wish to read more book reviews book thoughts.

This is today’s VEDA video; topic: Blogging. I walk you through my history with blogging. It looks a little spooky because of Alan’s lighting.

VEDA: a virtual group hug

No VEDA today. Last night’s topic is books and I recorded it and uploaded and upon watching it on youtube this morning, I saw a misplaced clip! Embarrassed, I took it down and will post it probably Friday as part of the Quick 7 Takes. Tonight I have date night with the boyfriend and not much to say about today’s topic which is road trips. So, I’m taking a one night pause. Two videos to show tomorrow (the one I did last night and the one for tomorrow).

I wanted to say thank you for my last vlog’s comments. Ashley said it on twitter the best. She said the self image day on VEDA was like a giant virtual group hug :). Thanks for the virtual hugs.

Since I’m not posting a video blog today, I’m going to share with you some of my favorite vlogs from the other vloggers doing VEDA.

First two are from Nicopolitan.

Next two are from Treavioli.

Question: Did you fall in love with these guys?

VEDA August 17, 2010: Self Image

Today’s VEDA topic is NOT a fun topic. The prompt for today is “self image.” I kind of had a mini anxiety episode so I stopped filming and thus it ends kind of abruptly. I show you my two big body hang ups.

Grumble, grumble. Will see you tomorrow!

Ten on Tuesday (vol 3) Reliving College

Yes, I’m totally cherry picking my “Ten on Tuesday” experiences. I know I haven’t done one of these for a while but this week’s questions gave me an excuse to relive the good times that was college.

1. Where did you go to college?

UT at Austin!

2. What did you study?

Majored in biology and philosophy and minored in computer science.

3. Was college really all that it was cracked up to be?

Completely. Some of my closest friends I’ve made in college and we still keep up with each other even after graduating 5 years ago. Awesome, funny, memories, milestones and growing pains. Hardly any bills! You can skip class if you wanted to (can’t skip work). You can pull all nighters easily. Also at the risk of sounding like a geek, I enjoyed cramming, taking tests, taking notes, and late night study groups.

4. How far were you from home?

2.5 hours from Houston.

5. Did you have the same roommate all four years?

I had the same roommate for the first 3 years. She’s my girl. Just celebrated her birthday not too long ago. Lived by myself the last year.

6. Where did you order food from at 2am?

Pluckers for wings. Or drive/walk to Kerbey Lane, a 24 hour breakfast diner.

7. Did you date in college or were you tied down?

I was tied down. Met him beginning of freshmen year and didn’t break up til end of college. Um, if you can avoid it, I recommend not being tied down in college!

8. Funniest drunk college moment?

It wasn’t that funny. 9 years ago, I was learning how low my tolerance was freshmen year. After two shots of Goldschlager, my roommate had to carry me home. I think it’s only funny because til this day she tells me I may look light, but am pretty heavy dead weight! Also, after that night I didn’t take another drink of alcohol for over a year. I’ve never had another drop of Goldschlager again.

9. Did you make it to class on time?

I was either on time or I skipped.

10. What was your favorite class in college?

I enjoyed all my computer science classes. Namely because of bonding time with Deesh and Jen and cute German exchange students. My favorite biology class was Vertebrate Physiology. I rocked that class. My favorite philosophy class was with Robert Soloman (RIP and yes, he has a Wikipedia page!) for Existentialism.

VEDA – August 16, 2010: Sports

Today’s VEDA (topic: sports) wasn’t as cute as I thought it would be. I was going to try to sneak a video clip of Alan teaching me about sports but he caught on and made me promise no video. Boo. I did sneak in a few boring clips of him.

Bonus: Read an old blog post documenting a conversation I had with Cindy back in 2008 about football.

VEDA – August 15, 2010: How to Treat Hangovers

Hello, friends. Today’s VEDA topic is hangovers. Because I’m tired of watching myself and in case you are too, I had 4 other faces help me out. Brittany, Deesh, and Bing let me tape them in their home last night. And Neville from Nevblog.com (Great blog! Email me for my favorite blog posts, projects, and stories from him. I have a whole slew of them.) contributed a clip.

VEDA – August 14, 2010: Favorite Drink

Ah, a couple of ya’ll are telling me I’m posting too many video blogs. I totally agree. The thing is, the project is called VEDA, Vlog (video blog) Every Day in August. I’m sorry. Bear with me? Today’s suggested topic for VEDA is favorite drink. I forgot to tell you why my friends love to drink with me (I only told you why they hate it). They love drinking with me because usually they get to drink 3/4 of my drinks.

I have some new faces to introduce to you the next couple of days :).

Friday 7 Quick Takes (vol 15)

1.

VEDA – Um this was the most blooper filled experience I’ve had taping a vlog. I have one clip ready for the day we reveal some bloopers. I don’t know why but I think I was the most nervous doing this vlog because I could not stop stuttering. Which resulted in 2-3 jumpy cuts in the final product. I just had to give it up. This is good practice for something that might later be useful in life, no? Blah, whatever, here it is.

2.

Just a random picture of a tower of boxes. I’ve been collecting boxes in my cave of an office at work for the boyfriend’s looming move.

3.

I had dinner with my little (Big Brothers & Big Sisters of America) a couple of nights ago and it’s like she sprouts a few inches every time I see her. She went from little tiny 8 year old to an almost 11 year old and it’s unsettling in numerous ways. For starters, she’s going to be taller than me real soon. That’s no fair, right? Second, our conversations are getting a little more mature. She told me she can’t wait to get old enough to get a tattoo. I said, “Oh yeah? What would you get?”

“Oh, I want a tattoo of my boyfriend’s name.”

I almost pulled over. Instead I vehemently discouraged her. I’m like, “No, really, really, really don’t ever do this.”

“What?! But wwwhhhy?”

“Because, Little, I know you’ll meet someone and you’ll think you’ll be together forever, but the odds are against you. Really. They’re against you. Most likely you’ll break up – I’m sorry I’ve seen this and been through this. It’s what usually happens. And when you do break up, you’ll be that girl who just got broken up with with his NAME on whatever body party you tattooed it. Trust me, I’ve seen youtube videos of people trying to remove tattoos, it ain’t pretty.”

To which she huffs. “I’m not stupid. I wouldn’t do it unless I knew we’d be together forever.”

Face to palm. FACE to fricking PALM. My best friend suggested I take her to a tattoo parlor and let her talk to a tattoo artist. Ha. Too bad this conversation didn’t happen before I already discussed piercings and tattoos for VEDA.

4.

While we’re on the topic of my crazy little. Here’s a self portrait she took of herself with my camera.

She thinks I’m a grandma or something because she started to quiz me on Internet speak. Used to be called AIM speak but I guess AIM is all outdated now. She asked, “Do you know what BRB means?”

Ha. I almost said, “Child, please!” (Yes, I’m channeling Chad Ochocinco.) “BRB was around before you were even BORN.” But I never belittle my little and was chill and answered her a plain, “Yeah, be right back.” She was shocked I knew. She then confirmed my level of competency by further quizzing me about LOL and TTYL. :) I’m glad I passed.

Current book: Eat, Pray, Love (Amazon affiliated link)

Random excerpt: “Generally speaking, though, Americans have an inability to relax into sheer pleasure. Ours is an entertainment-seeking nation, but not necessarily a pleasure-seeking one. Americans spend billions to keep themselves amused with everything from porn to theme parks to wars, but that’s not exactly the same thing as quiet enjoyment. Americans work harder and longer and more stressful hours than anyone in the world today. But as Luca Spaghetti pointed out, we seem to like it. Alarming statistics back this observation up, showing that many Americans feel more happy and fulfilled in their offices than they do in their own homes. Of course, we all inevitably work too hard, then we get burned out and have to spend the whole weekend in our pajamas, eating cereal straight out of the box and staring at the TV in a mild coma (which is the opposite of working, yes, but not exactly the same thing as pleasure). ”

6.

I was debating on posting this video. I cursed a lot. Bleep bleep bleep, bleep bleep bleep. But uh, cursing is what I do when I freak out. I freaked out because there was a lizard in my apartment. I videoed it under Brittany and Martin’s suggestion and because I was reminded fondly of Chitown’s insect video. This isn’t hardly as funny. So in case for some reason I find myself on the job market, I uploaded the video but it’s unlisted. If you’z friends of mine want to see a freak out of yours truly, you can ping me.

I cashed in a favor from Deesh and called him at 11pm for my reptilian emergency. Offering of course to treat him to lunch :). He was over in a jiffy and freed the imprisoned lizard (I trapped it in a shoebox against my wall). He hardly reads my blog (which is on par with most of my real life friends), but just in case he peeks in, thanks again, friend!

7.

Because I ran out of takes and this will tie in neatly with take #1, here’s a picture of the miniature snow globes I have at work.

Happy Friday, ya’ll!
